ACTIVITIES

Mull is famous for its wildlife - there are both Golden and White-tailed Sea eagles to be seen. (The RSPB operates a sea-eagle viewing facility on Loch Frisa). Additionally there are boat trips across to the Treshnish Isles to see sea-birds such as puffins, guillemots, gannets etc.
Locally there are plenty of red deer to be seen. also otters, seals weasels, stoat and polecats. Along the shores you will find herons, geese, ducks and many species of coastal birds. Organised wildlife trips can be booked locally.
There are many grades of walks to be had, from leisurely to strenuous according to taste. Many like to climb Ben More, Mull’s only Munro, during their stay. Mull has some great beaches - the white-sand Calgary beach some 20 mins walk away, and many other secluded white and black sand beaches.
There are two golf courses (9-hole) on Mull, facilities for tennis and squash (Tobermory), a swimming pool (Craignure) and even an island railway.
A visit to Torosay Castle and Gardens is recommended, and this can be combined with another to Duart Castle, with its splendid views over the Sound of Mull.
Fishing permits (loch and river) can be obtained in Tobermory, and sea-fishing trips are also available. Whale-watching trips operate out of Tobermory.
While on Mull a trip to Iona, the birthplace of Celtic Christianity in Britain, has much to recommend it.
For the more energetic there are cycle-hire facilities and pony trekking and horse riding available.
